Sitaleki Ofamooni (Altona), Brett Ransley-Keogh (Matraville), Michael Jaye (Beenleigh), Sione Veamatahau (Bundaberg) and Andre Viane (Bundaberg) recently participated in the GBMA Challenge Training Day, held at the Knauf Heathwood distribution centre.
The Training Day was held in preparation for the GBMA Safety Challenge, and also provided an opportunity to select the final team. Sharon Brailey from Heathwood is the team coach.
The GBMA (Gypsum Board Manufacturers of Australasia) is the industry body for plasterboard manufacturers in Australia and New Zealand. Members include BGC, Boral, CSR, Knauf and Winstone Wallboards (GIB).
Each year a plasterboard manufacturer and member of the GBMA host a GBMA Safety Challenge. This year GIB in New Zealand will be hosting the event on Thursday 10 October in Auckland, New Zealand.
The Safety Challenge is an opportunity to demonstrate participants’ skills and experience in operating forklifts and conducting other work tasks safely.
The Challenge includes driving forklifts, theory and pre-op checks and other events like manual handling and emergency response.
Forklifts represent one of the highest safety risks in the industry and safety for drivers and pedestrians is critical.
According to Knauf’s National WHS and Sustainability Manager Kathryn Walker it was great to see how everybody enthusiastically participated in the Training Day.
“Everybody put their best foot forward and thoroughly enjoyed the day. A big thank you to the Heathwood team – Sharon Brailey, Kurt Hanson and Pietro Spinosa – for hosting the event.”
After the conclusion of the Training Day the final team was announced. Congratulations to Sione, Andre and Sitaleki who have been selected to represent Knauf in New Zealand in October! We know that you will make us proud!
