Exciting times ahead for Matt Hirst and family!
We are very pleased to see Matt Hirst, Production Supervisor at Knauf’s Altona plant, recently accept an international transfer to as Process Engineer with Knauf Engineering based in Ipofen, Germany.
The new role will see him utilize and further develop his skills and experience in calcination and boardline dryers to help optimize existing and new Knauf installations.
Matt’s career has grown in plasterboard as a Technical Officer before transitioning to become a Boardline Supervisor. In the 13 years with Lafarge and Knauf Australia Matt has delivered improvements to not only the Altona site but also to Matraville, Bundaberg and Saraburi, Thailand through project based tasks or plant commissioning.
Matt’s transfer means that we will also be saying goodbye to his wife, Jonalyn, from the Altona team. Jonalyn is a senior member of the Altona technical team and has been instrumental in delivering improvement projects on the Altona site and abroad.
“I’m excited and looking forward to joining Knauf Engineering in Iphofen. I’m also looking forward to moving to Germany with my wife and son to experience a new culture and language,” Matt said.
“Of course we will miss Matt and Jonalyn, but we share their excitement in taking up the new challenge and making the most of the global opportunities for growth and development offered by the Knauf Group.” Said Phil Renwick, Human Resources Director.
We wish Matt, Jonalyn and their son, Sebastian, all the best for the next and exciting stage of their lives.

Jonalyn, Matt and Sebastian.
Sione recognised for his initiative
Sione Veamatahau, a warehouse operator at our Bundaberg plant, was recently recognised for going above and beyond the normal call of duty.
Sione took the initiative to improve the operations in the Knauf Bundaberg warehouse by designing a new bay labelling system. He engaged with the Production team, sourced the paint and got the job done.
“Sione’s initiative is a practical example of living the values of the Knauf Group,” said Justin Weier, Bundaberg Plant Manager. “It reflects the spirit of commitment and entrepreneurship that we value and we recognise Sione’s pro-active approach and loyalty.”

Sione Veamatahau receives a recognition reward from Katrina Bale, Distribution Manager in Bundaberg.
