Knauf introduces InterShield – an improved and welcome addition to our popular InterHome system.
Knauf’s InterHome is a tried and tested separating wall system suitable for adjoining residential dwellings such as duplexes or townhouses. InterHome is a trusted system well-known for its ease of installation and the simple solution it provides when it comes to installing penetrations for electrical and plumbing services.

An important design element that sets InterHome apart from conventional separating wall systems is the central fire barrier that incorporates Knauf ShaftLiner – a 25 mm fire resistant plasterboard made with a gypsum core with recycled blue liner paper.
InterShield offers the same fire and acoustic performance as ShaftLiner but with the added benefit of superior mould and water resistance, significantly minimising the risk of interstitial mould in the built structure during and after construction.
The mould inhibitor used in InterShield has been carefully tested in our labs and onsite. It offers months of protection against mould and water damage, even in severe weather conditions.
Mould often forms on the internal structures of a separating wall system before the structure is roofed over. In the event of rainy weather during this phase, water damage can also impact on the performance of the plasterboard. Contractors often have to wait for boards to dry out before continuing with the project.
Because InterShield highly resistant to wet conditions, valuable time is saved and projects can progress as scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
Rainy weather in the early stages of construction is not the only risk factor for mould growth. Sometimes interstitial condensation or roof, air conditioner and other leaks in an existing building can go unnoticed for months, leading to mould growth on the internal structures. Often the problem is only noticed when the mould seeps through to the internal linings.
The mould spores can lead to serious health issues for the occupants, and properties that are severely affected by such mould growth can become uninhabitable. Often the only way to rectify the problem is to replace large sections of the entire wall system – a very costly repair.
By choosing InterShield from the start such a situation can be avoided, because it continues to provide protection against mould growth long after construction of the building.
