When it came to making design and product choices for his own home, builder Anthony Chidiac of Capacity Pty Ltd, had a particular vision and exacting requirements for the end result.
The project
The project, in Oatlands in Sydney’s western suburbs, is a $2 million build, Hampton’s style home, designed with grand proportions and top quality finishes by Anthony Chidiac in collaboration with Ross Howieson Architects.
The house is a brand new rebuild of a two story home above basement. With a US theme throughout the design, the home is constructed out of masonry and concrete with rendered exterior walls and a US shingle roof.
The product
The interior walls of pine stud and 10mm plywood sheets have been finished with Opal plasterboard with Level + technology and MastaTape Universal compound, to continue the high quality finishes throughout the build. During the construction phase, Anthony has found that in addition to its excellent sheeting size, which reduces labour time. The boards are also stiffer than other plasterboard sheets, which means they are much more durable during installation and, therefore, there is less wastage due to damage.
“The installation method for the boards is the same as any other board,” says Anthony Chidiac, the owner/builder. “However, the high quality lining paper and the special jointing compound that is used for the finish adheres well and gives a much more luxurious end result.”
The result
“I chose Knauf Opal board for several reasons. The two main reasons were because it has a superior finish compared to other products available and a much better impact tolerance.”
– Anthony Chidiac, Owner/Builder
In addition to a superior finish Opal plasterboard has been designed to provide better soundproofing than other products available, is much more hard-wearing and is perfect for a well-habited family home.
“In future years I’m looking forward to having extended family gatherings at home,” says Anthony. “And the sound-proofing and impact-resistance will mean that the house retains its high quality feel as well as providing privacy and noise reduction.”
