Eagle Street in Brisbane, Queensland is at the heart of the ‘Golden Triangle’ where the CBD meets exclusive riverfront and creates the region’s key employment hub.
Eagle Street is a vibrant precinct for residents and workers alike. The area has a dense concentration of skyscrapers and buildings interspersed by major parks and open spaces. Wrapping around the northern bank of the Brisbane River and central to the organised street grid is the city’s original central roadway, now a pedestrian mall for Brisbane’s premier shopping destination. With south Eagle Street central to the hotly anticipated new city-shaping redevelopment, the architects at PTID revamping the offices were conscious of the requirements dictated by the premium location.
“The tenancy which comprises one floor in an Eagle Street building, covers more than 1100 square metres creating office space for approximately 100 people. The multi-purpose rooms and reception areas demanded outstanding acoustic properties with an elegant look,”
– Tim Bodel, Director of Total Scope Interiors.
Knauf’s Stratopanel was selected for its seamless and continuous perforated finish perfect for the reception areas of the property tenancy. The perforated plasterboard has excellent acoustic properties ideal for all commercial public areas such as offices, conference halls and hospitality spaces. Stratopanel includes CLEANEO Technology which has built-in air purification that reduces smells and airborne pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), improving the overall air quality on the floor.
“We worked closely with Knauf in planning the installation to ensure Stratopanel was installed to specifications,” says Tim.
The on-site collaboration with Total Scope Interiors and Knauf enabled the best approach for cutting and applying Stratopanel to the ceiling. The onsite advice proved invaluable when it came to managing a number of access panels in the reception area, which were cut out and later added back in with the metal framing in place, helping to create an overall seamless finish.
“Essential access panels have the potential to block the continuous perforations. With Stratopanel, because the design caters to access panels this ensured the reception area had the same seamless and sophisticated look the client and architect wanted to achieve. We would definitely use Stratopanel and work with Knauf again,” says Tim.
The result is an aesthetically pleasing office that reflects the sophistication of the surrounding area, which will continue to grow as a world-class riverside precinct.
